UC520 one PSTN POTS line config
I need help guys and gals. I have a new uc520 cannot figureout for the life of me how to get calls to come in and go out of the POTS line. I can not find example configs anywhere. Anyone have a base config instructions or a web site that will show me how? or is any one has time to explain to me that would be great. Key system just the basics for now and I can struggle through the rest. Just need to be able to call in and out of the device to the auto attendant.
Thanks,
The CCA 1.9 has whats called
The CCA 1.9 has whats called a "blast group". This rings all extensions assigned to the blast group. There are groups 4 available.
If a second call comes into the blast group that already has a call going, the phones in the blast group not in use will ring.
The advantage to the blast group over an overlay is that analog phones assigned to FXO ports can be in blast groups.
So an analog phone, lets say Extension 200, can be in several blast groups. This allows 200 to pick up all the incoming lines if you desire.
What about SIP trunk?
How would one go about to configure a particular number in a SIP trunk to make all phones ring at once?
I do this with Overlays
Several of our customers request this type setup for one reason or another....we just build an overlay and have the 2nd buttons on their phones watching this overlay. Calls coming in are plarred to the overlay DN and they ring all the phones at once.
In fact, for various reasons, you may have more overlays configured as more buttons on each phone.
Hope this helps.
There are few alternatives
There are few alternatives to shared/overlay lines, that have their own quirks, for example, a second calls coming into the same shared DN, will ring only at the phone that has the call, unless you configure a chain of CFB to other DNs.
One alternative, I wrote a TCL/IVR script that allows to "blast" calls to destinations:
http://pbevila.fastmail.fm/public/bcast.tcl
Also, in CME 4.3, you have both parallel hunt-group for SCCP ephone-hunt, and octo-line DNs.
How to use this script?

Overlay is the way to go
I've got a client with 4 POTS lines connected. All calls go to an extension, then a DN is created for the other three instances. Overlay added to second button on 7941G phones which covers first extension, dn1, dn2, dn3.
I would not suggest a key system config, as you may not be able to use all features available to a PBX system.
Just my $.02.

Overlay seems to be the way
Overlay seems to be the way to go.
When setting up Button 1oDN,DN,DN....
If you have a 2-line phone, use "button 2x1" I think. It's supposed to make a copy of button 1, but I haven't implemented it yet to know for sure.
"N00b to the UC520"
Its easy but......
You will have to use the overlay feature. Send your inbound calls to an extension and then assign that extension as an overlay on the phone you want. Look up button overlaying and you will be headed down the right direction.

Overlay issues
We are using the overlay setup as described to allow for all phones to ring when an inbound call overflows from our reception. However this setup effectively forwards the call to an extension which all phones can answer as it is programmed as the overlay on button 1. What appears to be happening is that the user picks up the call on the overlayed extension but their real phone extension is still available as you can ring it and it doesnt appear as engaged.
On the 7931 we have monitor buttons for all internal extensions and the phone does not show as in use either when an overlayed number is answered. Therefore the receptionist tries to put a call through and it appears as though the user is ignoring the call when the are actually on the phone!
Our support guys have tried changing the phones to not be dual-line but this didnt help. We have a combination of 7911 and 7931 handsets.

Any ideas???
Or Just Create a shared line
If it is just one FXO line that the call is comming in from just add the DN to buttons on multiple phones. It will then act as a shared line.
Hope that helps,
Ted
Sounds like a Key System
Sounds like a Key System configuration where all phones have the CO lines configured as buttons. When a call comes in on line one, everyone's line one rings. Is that how your UC500 is setup?
