Best way forward CCME and E1 or Asterisk and SIP trunk

Hello All,

Being my first post I will say hi all first! This is an awesome site. I am pretty new to CCME having used * for over a year now with 7940s&70s and found it to be very good with SCCP how we have it setup.

My question is this. I want to use our CCME4.1 setup to handle the phones now to gain the proper features for them. I like the CCME4 setup and I have it running currently with our * for VM and calls (* are 2XX and the CCME is 3XX and they can all call each other and VM works fine - inc the MWI!) but what I am after is guidelines on this:

We have 1 E1 line into a E1 card in the * machine and then 8 phones running SCCP off the * machine and this is working as wanted.

I want to know do I use the E1 in the * machine then config that to use a SIP trunk to send all calls to the CCME and then have the phones on the CCME. So that reuses a lot of the technology we have here.

Now, will the SIP trunk pickup the Caller ID and send that for inbound calls to the CCME? We have the Caller ID lookup using our CRM in * which gives the girls on reception who is calling - or all phones if it is OOH.

They like this and so does the MD. Will that stop working if I forward all inbound PSTN calls to the SIP trunk then onto CCME?

*or*

Buy one E1 card and AIM-VOICE module for the CCME and let that handle all the calls. If I do that leave * for VM. I know then I loose the Caller ID from CRM - is there another way to lookup CID on the fly for all inbound calls?

This way makes the CCME do all the call work and * just for the VM and that's about it - which does seem a waste to me as the server works fine - and I would not want to complicate the installation we have or replicate too much on two devices.

A working example if anyone has it would be lovely. Or some best practise guidance?

*or*

A better way?

Regards,

Steve
