Up the creek

Greetings all,

I have been reading all of the previous posts because I am having the same issue. I think mine may be the worst possible situation. I performed the upgrade of the CUE though the CCA v1.8 and it started and ran for about 1.5 hrs and then stopped. I clicked the status button and it showed a time out error of some sort. My phones are up and running and I verfied my service interface ip and gateway, ok. I initated a reload of the CUE and then there is nothing. I have been attempting the procedures recommended from Cisco but I can not get into the unit even from console, just a blank screen after login. Does anyone have a suggestion? Other wise I'm gonna RMA back to Cisco being its brand new and under Smart-Net.

-Cheers

Beside the reset to factory

Beside the reset to factory default. you never answered my other questions.
what is 10.1.10.2? default GW? loopback address?
Can you ping it?
do sh ip interf brief are all interfaces up?

did you try this? For testing purpose pls try:
interface Service-Engine0/0
ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/1
service-module ip address 10.1.10.1 255.255.255.252
service-module ip default-gateway 10.1.10.2
!
interface FastEthernet0/1
ip address 10.1.10.2 255.255.255.0
duplex auto
speed auto

lets see

I a mnew at this but I will give it a shot
In the log you posted it says:
'WARNING:: IOS communication appears delayed!
WARNING::
WARNING:: Please verify the Service Engine IP Address
WARNING:: and Default Gateway are configured correctly
WARNING:: on the service engine interface in IOS"

To reset to factory default pls do:
Step 1 se-10-0-0-0# offline

This command puts the system into offline mode.

Step 2 (offline)# restore factory default

This operation will cause all the configuration and data on the system to be erased. This
operation is not reversible. Do you wish to continue? (n)
Step 3 Do one of the following:

•Enter n if want to retain the system configuration and data.

The operation is cancelled, but the system remains in offline mode. To return to online mode, enter continue.

•Enter y if you want to erase the system configuration and data.

When the system is clean, a message appears indicating that the system will start to reload. When the reload is complete, a prompt appears to start the postinstallation process.

Hi
thanks
my config ios the default one and it has the default settings
for the nterface Service-Engine0/0

Before the upgrade i can get a session to the cue
but now i can't!
So i am not able to run command like
offine or restore factory default

Is it possible to restore the cme to factory default
without open a session into it ?

Any luck with this? If you

Any luck with this?

If you are still fighting with it, go ahead and go to the below website and send your running config to the support address...Attn: hoover and I'll take a look at it for you.

in IOS do you have and IP address configured?

In IOS do you have an appropriate IP address, default gateway and static route configured for CUE on the integrated service engine?

yes ! I do

Interface Integrated-Service-Engine0/0
ip unnumbered Loopback0
ip nat inside
ip virtual-reassembly
service-module ip address 10.1.10.1 255.255.255.252
service-module ip default-gateway 10.1.10.2

ttrentler's picture

static route

do you have an entry that reads like
ip route 10.1.10.1 255.255.255.0 integrated-service-engine0/0

static route

Hi Ted

yes I do!
it seems that something went wrong during the update!
my uc500 config is the defualt one!

do you know any program that i can use to reset the cue or
any work around ?
thanks

reinstalling Unity Express manually

If you can reload your CUE manually from IOS and watch the boot process at a certain point it will ask you to enter ***
to get to the boot loader. You could then boot CUE from a TFTP server and then reinstall CUE from the Zip fle download from Cisco. I have not seen the process for the UC520 documented, Though I have fumbled around and done it during a botched upgrade, so you may want to contact TAC, but here is a loik from Cisco's site about using boot helper.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity_exp/rel3_0/installat...

Hi Ted thanks that is

Hi Ted
thanks
that is intresting!
the problem is how to get to the bootloader help!
How can i see the cue boot if I cannot connect to it?

one other note

rbcp is the protocol that the router portion of the UC500 uses to communicate as a virtual console session when you use the session command. If rbcp is not working then you can't get in. You could try a telnet session to the Unity express IP address. I doubt this will work though. One reason rbcp may not work is that the version of IOS on the router is not compatible with the version of Unity Express on the AIM card. On ISR routers there is actually a little light on the back of the network module that indicates that Unity Express has detected and can work with the version of IOS installed.

SO I think it may be one of a few problems.
Wrong version of IOS installed.
Bad network addressing. (IP address, default router, icorrect subnetmask, bad static route)
Or there is a problem with the module.

Since this happened durning an upgrade maybe downgrade the system and retry the upgrade.
I'm happy to look at your config if you post it here. Or just call TAC.

Ted

FIXED

Fixed

Hi

There is a way to fix CUE!
It is very complicated to fix ,I wil try to explian how I did
it and what you need.Do not hesitate to contact me if something is not clear!
I spent friday night to fix it!

first go to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity_exp/rel3_0/installat...

as suggested by Ted and read the guide carefully.

You need also a pc with ftp server and tftp server.
I have used microsoft xp with iis installed with ftp server
and solaris tftp server.

1) login into the uc500 router
2) run telent 10.1.10.1 2002 from the xp machine and leave it running
(10.1.10.1 is the ip address of cue)
3) from the uc500 run service-module integrated-Service-Engine 0/0 reload
4) from the telnet session in your xp machine you should see the cue
booting !!type *** and you will get the boot-helper prompt

follow http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity_exp/rel3_0/installat...

thanks to Ted and all of you

try this

service-module integrated-Service-Engine 0/0 reset or restart and wait a few minutes.

tried

i have tried
ervice-module integrated-Service-Engine 0/0 reset or reload
but is does not make difference

possible RMA?

looks like you may have killed CUE.

I've had three units over the passed 4 months that have had the exact same thing happen to them. The first one was because I upgraded the software to 4.2.6 using CCA 1.5, (you need to use CCA 1.6 or later). The others were just unexplained.

My only option was to RMA them back to Cisco. Probably not what you wanted to hear though.
