You'll need to configure VLANs on the switch as per UC500 configuration (VLAN 1 and 100 by default).
If your switch does not support CDP then you will need to power up the phone and go into settings->network configuration and edit the administrative vlan to match the voice vlan ID on the UC500 (default VLAN 100)
To connect to the "Expansion" port on the UC500 you will need to configure one of the ports on your standard switch as a 802.1q trunk port so that both VLAN 1 and VLAN 100 data can traverse the link.
