I am desperate for a cheap attendant console solution. The 7931 phone does not have enough buttons to make my customer happy. Linksys has one - http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US... Its my understanding that you have to have a Linksys phone to make this work. Does anyone know if this might work? Thanks, Ryan |

After the fiasco of Arc Express on the UC500 - we were told to dump it totally and use a 7914 'side car' instead. It works - ain't nearly as flashy, but gets the job done - after a fashion.
Arc Express on the UC Range
Hi All,
Been reading your comments on arc express, currently Arc Express isn't fully sported on the UC500, the two products aren't fully compatable we (i work for Arc Solutions) are working with cisco to improve the compatability with out Version 2 release of arc.
Arc Express can be installed to just have the Busy Lamp information, but it would additionally set up some of its queue control, which you wouldn't need to use.
We are working to sort the compatability with the UC500/520, we will then be looking to address the pricing diffrence, but this will be a more longer term process over the imidate aim of something that will work released by mid may.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in contact with me - express@arcsolutions.com

ArcExpress is overkill for most UC500/CME installs
We installed the ArcExpress trial at a CME site, but the customer didn't buy it. Despite the fact that it's marketed towards the CME users, it's still overkill for the vast majority of them.
As someone else mentioned, it really requires a dedicated PC. Even more troubling, it requires that you use the PC to answer/handle the calls, not the phone. If it was cheaper, they might have bought it and used it for just the few features they're looking for.
We've been looking for a decent solution that just provides a "busy lamp field" - most of our CME & UC500 customers don't need or want to handle multiple call queues or use a PC to answer and transfer phone calls. But they DO want to know who is on the phone at any given time. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but there is simply nothing out there that can do that, as far as I know.
We also looked at UCC, and I'm glad to read that we're not the only ones who found it flakey and buggy...

CME ConsoLite
I don't know if that makes to the status of decent solution, but I wrote a php based script that does BLF (via SNMP) for all or configured ephones. It uses any web server (even xp's one) provided a php run-time is installed. I wanted to implement a "refresh-free" screen update, but that requires web programming skills a bit beyond myself.

Does anyone have a guide to
Does anyone have a guide to setting up Arc Express for UC520?
We to are looking at getting
We to are looking at getting some software for presense information.
I have had a look at the UCC software and it just seems flacky as hell.
We current have Personal call connector client on the user machines but want ot know if anyone knows of any other software that will give us presense info with this client.
cheers

Hoover, any tips on getting
Hoover, any tips on getting 1.3 up and running? After seeing how bad CCA 1.x has been, I'm hesitant to have another piece of Cisco software get its hooks into the UC520. So far, UCC has been has been generating a ton of error during the config wizard.
Well.....
The best advice is to wait until the next release of you can. Today as a matter of fact I have been volleying back and forth with the development team trying to get our 1.3 wrapped up....I send them a problem, they send me a patch.
UCC is VERY finicky. Our user install SQL on the UCC server and it hosed everything. We had him rebuild the server with just WIN2K and they UCC woudl run again.
- If you have multiple network adapters on your server you will have problems.
- The wizard needs a patch
- The radius server needs a patch or lines won't refresh properly
Be sure to add exception rules to the firewall for the .exe files on your clients. If they have multiple network adaptors you will have problems, needs a patch.
The system will get pissed if you don't have Outlook installed on your clientt box, or was that v1.2....anyway.
What errors are you getting?
Plenty
I'm getting "list index out of bounds (5)" errors and "cannot make changes while the dataset is open". I think I'm going to wait until the next release before I try anything else. Maybe Cisco will pick up a copy of "Writing Software for Dummies" soon.
Interesting...
I'm also interested in finding a decent attendant solution/replacement. The Unified Call Connector software from Cisco is an absolute nightmare, I can't believe they are actually selling and supporting the product. I had over 8 TAC cases open and several conference calls with key Cisco folks from the Development and Business Unit teams regarding the UCC product and it feels like they're just spinning their wheels. This is my biggest grip about the UC500 platform, the software piece are just god awful.
I've been trying to figure out how to make Fonality's HUD work with the UC520 for weeks. http://www.fonality.com/hud/ but I'm not having much luck. This ARC console gives me more hope though...
UCC
HAHA....yes, UCC sucks. I'm on first name basis with the developers now as well. We didn't even bother with TAC and was able to pull some strings and get right to the source. What issues are you having with it? Did you ever get it going? We started with 1.2 and are now finishing up a 1.3 beta install on CME.
ARC Console
Check this out.

It works really well on CME. I have no idea on the price. They have a 45 day free trial.

I am familar with ArcExpress
Its a great product. It runs about $1,000 for the product and you have to dedicate a PC to run it. That said its really priced to high when comparing the UC520 system to other phone systems. I really need a cheap alternative to make us more competitive.
