The really cool new features the my opinion are support for G.722 and iLBC compression. Oh and they are Gigabit.

G.722 is Wideband Audio.  Quite simply the G.722 codec gives us much better audio quality than G.711, typically the standard codec we use on our LANs and T-1/E-1 Circuits.  Now we can have BETTER than toll quality audio on our IP Phone system at around 64k the same bandwidth requirements as G.711.  In addition Cisco has upgraded the audio quality of the speakerphone and handsets to accommodate the higher quality audio.  G.722 samples at 16khz instead of 8khhz of G.711 resulting in much better audio quality. G.722 is an ITU standard and more information can be found here.

iLBC deals with frames with graceful speech quality degradation. Lost frames happen when IP packets are delayed or lost. iLBC works at two speeds. 20 ms frames @ 15.2 kbit/s  and , 30 ms frames @ 13.33 kbit/s.   ILBC has packet loss concealment algorithms and A similar CPU load to G.729A.  Under good network conditions iLBC gives a voice quality Mean Opinion Score of 4.14.  More on iLBC is available in RFC3951. iLBC is supported on CallManager 6.0 and Cisco plans to support it on future versions of CallManager Express.
