Not sure if anyone is able to offer some advice, but we seemed to have broken our UC520 !.
We purchased the UC520W a couple of weeks ago so we could evaluate it as a product we could possible resell, anyhow engineers being engineers we just started playing with it and never backed up the original configuration. A couple of days ago one of my engineers tried to factory reset the UC520W back to its factory settings and I suspect he actually did a bit more than just wipe the config !. With the help of cisco I was able to download a copy of the factory software and config (UC520-4.2.3.zip). At first I thought I had sorted the problem and everything was ok, but once I started to try and configure the UC520W through the CCA I noticed things were not right for instance I’m not able to change the region to UK or the phone language (will not let me save the changes) , also after configuring the voice mail extension and saving the configuration, if I dial the extension number I get nothing.
I guessed because of the strange problems I have been having that I needed to restore the complete system software and not just the config, which is what I tried using the CCA however this fails when it is trying to backup the CUE, the CCA logs shows the following which might help someone work out the problem ...

Cisco BUG
I had a UC520 8 user system. It worked fine for a few weeks then started to go very slow.... the extensions and Voice mail stopped working etc.
It turned out to be a bug and I needed to upgrade the IOS on the router. Once this was done... everything was back to normal.
Look into what version of IOS you have...
I had uc500-advipservicesk9-mz-124-11.xw and I needed to go to uc500-advipservicesk9-mz-124-11.xw5
it was a known bug from Cisco TAC and I was told to upgrade.
I did not need to upgrade using the ZIP file update just the router IOS!!
Same fault with language
I have the same fault when I try and change the language. It does not allow it due to the files not being available on my computer. This then some how kills the dial tone. No call can be made untill I reset the uc500.
Can you Direct me to the file hat you used or a procedure to get ack to factory defaults?
restoring factory defaults
I downloaded UC520-4.2.3.zip from cisco, this file contains a default config for all the UC500 series and all the default software for it. I did however notice afterwards that on the flash card there is a backup of the factory config file (on mine it was called UC520W-8U-2BRI-K9-factory-4.2.0.cfg - I guess this is a slightly earlier version of the config I downloaded). In theory if you copy this file to the startup-config and reload it (through the console), it should put it back to factory defaults. I would strongly suggest you backup everything first otherwise you might end up with the other problem I have ! ..

One other thing I did notice is that in the latest release notes for the CCA (for version 1.1(1) they did add something in with regards to the language settings that might be causing this problem - although I doubt this would explain why my voice mail still does not work, and that I can not configure my system as a keysystem after factory resetting it !)

Manually Upgrading CUE
Take a look at the Cisco Unity Express Upgrade/ Install Guide at

You may have created an issue that the configuration tool just can't handle. (On the telephony side it does do a rather simple install) Also be aware the CUE has its own CPU, flash storage and internal network connection.
What version of 3.0 are u using?
Did you preform an ftp upgrade (if so std or clean) or did you do a clean install from the boot loader?
if you did it from the boot loader did you run in to an issue with a bad magic number?
similarly if you updated from within the cue did it complain about not being able to upgrade from the current running version of CUE?
