IEEE 802.11r Roaming Standard Quietly Approved

After 4 four years, The IEEE has recently ratified the 802.11r standard.  This is good news for wireless voice roaming and vendor interoperability. This new standard  allows devices like wifi phones to move from access point to access point with less than 50ms in downtime while supporting security and QoS.  

Several vendors were active in the 11r process including Aruba, Broadcom, Cisco, Intel, Motorola, Nokia, SpectraLink and Texas Instruments.
