Plans for the UC500 Platform

After an interesting chat with tech support today I got some very interesting info, I was asking about the upgradability from the different licensed versions i.e. 8 16,, well they are now supporting 32 64 and up shortly. I was very curious because I thought that there would be hardware limitations on box and secondly how many users can share 4 lines? Well it turns out the hardware isn’t really all that new it’s just heavily modified it’s actually a Cisco 3825 with a new breed of OS on it that custom tailored for the UC purpose. This exact hardware it supported to be able to support up to a 128 users down the line. It doest make sense for them to do so because that would put the 2800 series out the window from a sales prospective. Any ways I really look forward to seeing the new revs come out from Cisco and see what the community and hack out of this box.

There is a second wic card slot underneath the face plate for further T1 wic coming soon! :)
Check for your self its above the FXS pors!

UC500

The UC520 has an 8/16 user form factor and a 32/48. Currently you cannot upgrade from 8 to 16 or 32 to 48, but hopefully that ability will come sometime.

The slot you are talking about is where the Integrated T1 VWIC sits in the 48 user model. However, they arent going to support multiple T1 cards (so you can't use the integrated T1 and an additional T1 in the 48 user box). Their thinking is that 23 voice lines is enough to support a 48 user box in an SMB.

The UC500 series will never expand beyond 48 users. Thats why they released the 1861 router. Its the same hardware, but supports the 'full' versions of CME/CUE (SRST, etc) and IOS (dynamic routing, etc). This is the box you will use with CME in a branch-office deployment of a larger (250 user) CME deployment.

UC520 Limit on number of users

I have been working on this issue for a few days now. I guess the original plan was to support upto 250 users. But I believe due to marketing issues related to other products they are going to limit it to around 100 users. It currently works for 48 users.
